Prince Indian Brasserie – Southampton
Will comments:
Prince Indian Brasserie – Southampton graphic
There were 3 reasons behind my visit, on reflection none of them particularly sound.  First I turned down a trip to the Mayflower to watch ENO perform Alice In Wonderland very well to eat out (on my own) in Southampton.  Second it had been recommended to me by a vegan.  Third the PRICES displayed on their menu were reasonable, I only had £15.
The PLACE can be found on London Road, in the shadow of the cities sixties tower blocks looming like tombstones.  Still it looks as if business is fine from the outside, (they can afford to open for lunch), the inside, Olive green.
The SERVICE was very attentive, water glass refilled, was helped on with my coat when ready to leave, me, an old man?
My eyes aren't dim and I can see, did see large jars of Patak's curry sauce through a kitchen door ajar.  Bogus I thought, better steer clear of the Sheep's Brain Mossala (god knows what the substitute for that would be).
Yes, the FOOD. Starter portion of Lamb Tikka gave its £2.40 worth, i.e. was okay.  Likewise my Garlic Chicken the Main, except it wasn't really.  Not much chicken, hence the vegan seal of approval and the sauce rather watery, not ‘thick’ as advertised.  Although side dishes are eclectic, a combo of Lentils, Potato and Cauliflower was a little drab.  With it I had boiled rice, by the way the pilau is orange (!) and a glass of the House Red, full bodied, pleasantly soft, the highlight.
SUMMARY.
Curry houses abound in Soton and I'd go somewhere else next time.  Average average average! except for the wine and the nice waiter…
